We like to drop a little sushi knowledge every now and then because we feel it's necessary so that you know what you're eating and you get what you want. We have often received questions about the difference between these two and here it is. They are both roes, or the eggs of fish. Masago, is much smaller and it makes sense, because they come from small fish. Ikura is generally Salmon roe, because they are a bigger fish and therefore, produce bigger eggs. Because Masago is much smaller, it's kinda crunchy when you bite into them.

If you prefer, we can make any sushi roll with a sesame wrapper (or paper) instead of the usual seaweed wrapper. It's really a preference of choice. You might find that you like certain hand rolls with one wrapper over the other. We really don't mind. Just let our sushi chefs know and they'll gladly make the adjustment. You can never go wrong when you order our Jalapeno Yellowtail. It's low in carbs, women love it, it's great on dates, and it's extremely tasty! It all starts with perfectly sliced sashimi pieces laid out on our plate. It's then dressed with a ponzu mixed sauce and a jalapeno sauce blend along the top that has a lot of flavor and is not too spicy. And then we sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top. Yep, it's pretty perfect. Happy Cinco de Mayo to all of our friends out there! Yep, we chose to post about this dish because it had jalapeno in it.
Our customers have a lot of favorites and here is yet, another one. If you haven't tried our Baked Blue Crab Rolls, you're missing out. It's a simple roll but we have a unique way of preparing our blue crab that will blow your mind. You can get it in a hand roll or as a cut roll. It doesn't matter as they're both great! And, it doesn't have any raw fish in it so it's safe for all your friends who are still not willing to eat raw fish. The roll features a garlic aioli and is wrapped in a black sesame seed soy paper. It's delicious!
Beautiful, translucent, sweet shrimp. Yum. Yep, they're in stock and alive for the taking. Absolutely one of our favorite items so we always eat them ourselves when they're in stock. Our chefs masterfully serve up the tails of the amaebi with a just a hint of wasabi and rice, if you'd like. They then deep fry the heads for you so you can just eat those like fries, except these are much better. If you do dip it in soy sauce, make sure you only dip it a bit. Doesn't need much because the shrimp itself is so darn tasty.
Happy Hour all day on Mondays and Tuesdays means that you get to enjoy $2.50 sushi (for 2 pieces!). Sushi choices include Peppered Salmon, Albacore, Salmon, Yellowtail, Masago, Shrimp, Escolar, and Natto. Our sushi chefs are always adventurous and trying out new things. There was a time when we offered a Pop Rocks Sushi Roll on our specialty board for a while. We're not sure about how it was received but it was sure fun to make it and serve it for a while. Pop Rocks will always have that nostalgic quality for some of us adults who had to eventually grow up. We'll try to keep you informed about all of our different creations but the only way to truly know what we're experimenting with is if you come on in and take a seat at out sushi bar.

An item that is often neglected on our Happy Hour menu (and in general) is our Salmon Avocado Roll. It's very simple: just a piece of salmon and avocado in the center, wrapped in seaweed, rice, and toasted sesame seeds. Such a simple sushi roll but definitely hits the spot for taste and convenience. Our sushi chefs can whip this little bad boy up quickly so if you're in a rush to eat, try this one out. It's only $4 on our HH menu along with the usual culprits: $2.50 sushi, $2.50 sake, $3.50 appetizers, and $10 Sapporo pitchers.
Yay! The weekend is finally here and you get to kick back and relax. Well, we're not sure how you do that but if you look at this picture, this is how we do it. We line those sake bottles up and one by one, we knock them all down. Of course, we do this all the while eating some delicious sushi carefully prepared and crafted by our team of talented sushi chefs. They are always ready and willing to serve you so feel free to take a seat at our sushi bar or, if you have the tendency of ordering a lot of food (and a lot of sake), then get a table.
It's been a minute since we've posted about one of our sushi rolls. Let's get back on track with our signature roll, our Cypress Roll! It's center consists of shrimp tempura, cucumber, and avocado. It's topped with our snow crab mix, strawberries, and a sweet sauce. So, as you can tell, it has not raw fish in it so it's very sushi-virgin safe. Despite that, it is still very delicious and tasty. We wouldn't name it after the city we're in for nothing. It's been a minute. That's really a weird new expression these kids have come up with nowadays.
Just because it's not fish, don't disregard our Beef Tataki on the Happy Hour menu. It's an incredibly tasty item that we carefully make in-house. It is raw but you won't even notice it when you put it in your mouth. After it's been marinated, seared, and then aged, we carefully slice the beef into little medallions and then lightly dress them. An order is only $3.50 (along with 10+ other appetizers) during our Happy Hour, which is all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and on all other weekdays from 2pm till 5pm.
What consists of a happy sushi weekend? Well, sit on down at our sushi bar one of these weekends and you'll soon find out. We have a number of different omakase-style meals where it's our sushi chef's choice on what to serve you. It's a great deal and you'll get to sample a variety of our freshest sushi. The sushi in this picture is just a few of the items that we regularly feature at our sushi bar, like truffle salmon, red snapper, and jumbo scallops. Make sure you get a good sake to compliment your sushi weekend for it really won't be complete without it.
Yep, it's not for everyone. But for those who know how delicious Uni is, this close-up should make your mouth water. You can see the texture, which although looks like your tongue, it just melts in your mouth like butter. It's almost always on our specials board so just holler it out to our awesome sushi chefs and they'll whip up a few orders for you. It definitely goes well with one of our premium sakes. If you ever need help deciding on a sake pairing, don't hesitate to ask our servers or our chefs (if they're not too busy) for an appropriate sake that will best suit your liking.
A very popular item that's on our Happy Hour menu that nearly does not get enough attention is our Smoked Albacore Hand Roll. It's only $4 each during Orange County's best Happy Hour, which is all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and on all other weekdays from 2pm till 5pm. This close-up picture should give you a pretty good view of what it consists of: plenty of smoked albacore, fried onions, cucumber, and some other secret goodies. Also available during our HH is our $2.5 sushi, $3.5 appetizers, $2.5 sake, and $10 Sapporo pitchers. Just about everything you might need to be happy.
Hamachi (Yellowtail) Ribs are not always available so you'll have to ask our chefs if they're in stock. And trust us. They're worth asking about, especially if you haven't tried them. Our chefs carefully carve out the ribs, sear them, and then lightly dress them with a little spice and a little sweetness. You can just pick up each rib and then suck the meat off the bone. It's definitely a different take on "ribs." Normally, this is a wasted portion of the fish but the Japanese are known for not wasting any part of the fish.
They are all on the Happy Hour menu! Along with Peppered Salmon, Natto, Shrimp, Masago, and Escolar, you can get 2 pieces of sushi for only $2.50. HH is available all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and on all other weekdays from 2pm till 5pm, when all the other sushi joints are taking a nap. Also available on the Happy Hour menu is $3.50 appetizers (over 10 to choose from!), $2.50 sake, and $10 Sapporo pitchers. But that's not all that's on our HH menu. There are plenty of other items you'll have to come on in and try out.
We're not sure how long we'll have it, but currently on our Specials Board is Fried Baby Crabs. Yep, they're tiny and they're delicious. Just pop them in your mouth and eat them all up. It's just like eating fries, but way better. Always, always check our specials board when you come in for a visit. We love mixing things up and adding different things to the menu so there's always something new for you to try. Amaebi is still on the specials board so if you still haven't tried live sweet shrimp, you're definitely missing out.

One of our most favorite sushi to eat is always yellowtail, especially when you can see the little blood line along the cut. It's conveniently featured during our Happy Hour, along with albacore, salmon, peppered salmon, natto, shrimp, and escolar. $2.50 for 2 pieces. And appetizers, like the pictured Bake Mussels and Spicy Garlic Edamame, go for only $3.50 an order. There are over 10 different appetizers to choose from for only $3.50. And then, of course, we want you to wash it all down with $2.50 sake and/or $10 Sapporo pitchers.
A very common item on our specials board is our Hotategai, better known as Scallops. If you do come in and see it on there, be sure to order at least one serving. It's definitely a different texture and taste from regular fish sushi. If you are familiar with cooked Scallops, raw Hotategai has the same texture except that it might be a bit softer. And its flavor is very refreshing and feels more meaty than your typical raw fish sushi.

And lucky for you, it's only $2.50 for 2 pieces during Happy Hour, which is all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and on all other weekdays from 2pm till 5pm. There's plenty of deliciousness to fill you up so no need to worry about that.

We enjoyed making this Uni Pasta so much for Valentine's Day that we decided to officially add it to the menu! Don't let this picture fool you. It's actually a very hefty serving that's as rich and flavorful as it looks. As long as there's a demand for it, we'll continue making it. So come on in and have a serving to see what you think. If you love uni, and we know that you do, you'll love this dish completely. It's definitely an entree so order some appetizers and sushi first. Otherwise, you might not have any more room for it. A very common item on our specials board is our Smoked Salmon Collar. The meat around the collar of the salmon is especially buttery and delicious already. And searing the salmon collars were good but smoking them adds a whole other level of flavor and texture that is absolutely out of this world. The other nice thing about this item is that anyone, even non-sushi lovers, can enjoy this. It is fully cooked and comes with rice, salad, and some ponzu sauce. We always do the smoking ourselves so you know it's fresh. Try it out on your next visit. You won't regret it.
It really is the best deal in Orange County because we have a little bit of everything on our Happy Hour menu. You can get appetizers for $3.50, like the pictured (in the background) Baked Mussels. Choose from over 10 different apps. You can also get sushi for a mere $2.50 for 2 pieces, and you have a variety to choose from, like the popular pictured Peppered Salmon.
