Here we are at the start of another year. Many of us are making resolutions. Many of us intend on keeping them to improve our lives and our way of living. We'd like to help you keep your resolutions as much as possible so feel free to come on in and eat healthier and eat more fish. One of our ongoing resolutions is to always eat with loved ones more. Our lives are so busy nowadays that we forget what is most important: spending quality time with loved ones. So we want to encourage you to come on in and keep 3 of your resolutions on track for as long as possible.
This is more than just a resolution. This should be a part of life. Everyone should eat more fish because it's good for you. Why do you think everyone is crazy for Omega-3s? Welcome to the new year! Why not start the year off right and come on in for Happy Hour? It's all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and this year, New Year's Day happens to land on a Monday. So once y'all sober up, come on in (because we know you're not working) and take advantage of our $2.50 sushi, $2.50 sake, $3.50 appetizers, and $10 Sapporo pitchers. As we come to the end of another awesome year in Orange County, we'd like to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped make us what we are today. Every year, we have gotten better and better and we're just so grateful to be able to run a respectable sushi restaurant in Orange County. So cheers to you! We hope you all had a wonderful year as well and hope to see you often in the coming year. We do have some exciting things to share with all of you so stay tuned. One of our favorite items to always get while at the sushi bar is Hamachi, or Yellowtail. It's also known as Japanese Amberjack, though we think that name's too long and that's why we don't usually use it. We always try to include a little bit of the bloodline in our Yellowtail so you can always tell it's the real thing. It also makes it tastier. Yellowtail is always on the Sushi World Happy Hour menu for $2.50 for 2 pieces. Also included in the $2.5 Happy Hour sushi is salmon, peppered salmon, albacore, escolar, masago, shrimp, and natto.
Not all sushi is fish as is evident by this post about Ika, Squid. It definitely has a different texture as compared to traditional fish sushi. It's crunchier and we sear ours ever so lightly on the top to give it a little bit more taste and texture when you bite into it. Plus, it makes it easier to see, as you can tell from the photograph because it is very white. As is with almost everything else on our menu, you can get it as a sushi or as sashimi. Tastes similar to Conch, if you have ever had that. Almost always in stock.
This picture embodies a pretty perfect weekend to us: a big bottle of Kikusui sake and our sushi chef. That means we're going to drink and eat well and that pretty much means happiness all around. Swing on by this weekend and take a seat at our sushi bar! Talk to our sushi chefs to find out what you like best and they'll make sure to accommodate all your requests as best as they can. And of course, getting a big bottle of sake isn't mandatory but it sure helps, especially if you do decide to drink with our chefs. :-)
A new item that we recently added to our Happy Hour menu is Baked Scallop! Cooked in butter and soy sauce, it's available as one of our 10 appetizers for $3.5 during our Happy Hour which is all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 2pm till 5pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We do have the best Happy Hour around and we're always making changes to it so that you can try different items on our menu. We don't want you to get bored of us like you did with your last lover.
Unagi is fresh water eel baked in a sweet sauce so it's fully cooked. This is a great item to get for sushi virgins who are not quite ready for raw fish. You can get Unagi as regular nigiri sushi or even in a bowl for lunch, which we appropriately named, Unagi Bowl. It's also featured in the center of one of our most popular sushi rolls, our Caterpillar Roll. It's funny that we have never posted about this item before because it's such a common item that we forget to highlight it. Okay, on to the next sushi.
At Sushi World, we like to stick to the basics, like this here Red Snapper. It's a staple that most sushi lovers automatically order and never regret because of its delicate, sweet aroma. There's a lot of flack for other sushi restaurants that try to pass off Tilapia as Red Snapper but if you ever order it from us, you'll see that we always see a bit of skin on there so that you can tell from the pink markings that it really is red snapper. Stop on by and order a few today. We'd love to see ya.
We don't stick our rice in everything. We have awesome dishes that are pretty much no carbs! Pictured is our Salmon Carpaccio and our super duper popular Jalapeno Yellowtail. Both are delicious and super satisfying, especially if you enjoy great quality sushi but don't want all the rice. We know that living in Southern California, we're all a bit carb-conscious so these two items most definitely fits our lifestyle here. Also, these are both great dishes to get on a date. Bonus!
Another common item on the Sushi World specials board is our Truffle Salmon and it's exactly what it sounds like. A delicious piece of buttery salmon lightly brushed with some truffle oil. Can you see how it's glistening in the light? And it tastes like butter, if that helps any more with your visualization. And of course, we recommend you sit at our sushi bar and interact with the awesome Sushi World sushi chefs. We have 8 different sushi items available for $2.50 an order (2 pieces an order!) during our Happy Hour all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 2pm till 5pm Wednesdays through Fridays. Albacore is often overlooked but it's a sushi staple that you should always get once in a while. Our sushi chefs usually brush it with some sauce so you don't even have to dip albacore in your soy sauce & wasabi dip. Just eat it as is. The other 7 items for $2.5 are salmon, peppered salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, escolar, masago, and natto.
It's official. Apparently, there's been a bit too much carb consumption going on lately and the powers that be have designated certain carb-free zones all across Orange County. After all that sushi, you got room for dessert? Of course you do! Even if you have to make room, you should for our Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream that's wrapped in chocolate cake? How do we do that? Well, that's our secret. All you have to concern yourself with is eating it all cause you really can't pack it up to go. You can share this with another person or two but if you're a pig like us, you'll get one for yourself. It's worth it. And also worth the extra hour at the gym.
If you have a gathering and need something to wow everyone, try one of our custom party platters! We can make it consist of your favorites or you can leave it up to our awesomely talented chefs to pick and choose what they think would be best for your gathering. The one pictured features bluefin tuna, yellowtail, peppered salmon, albacore, salmon, tekka maki (tuna rolls), and cucumber rolls. It's quite a variety but you can also add a few of our sushi rolls, too. Oh, and you don't have to have a gathering in order to get one of our platters.

Our Spicy Scallop Hand Roll is simple yet bursting with flavors. We take a big serving of scallops, mix it with our special creamy sauce that includes masago, and then wrap it in seaweed with a slice of cucumber. Pictured here is an alternative you may have if you prefer soy paper over seaweed. We can make any hand roll with either seaweed or soy paper. Both ways are delicious so it's just a matter of preference. You also can get a whole spicy scallop cut roll, if that's what you prefer.
A very popular dish among sushi aficionados is ankimo, also known as monkfish liver. If you enjoy foie gras, you'll especially enjoy our ankimo because we make ours in-house. It's been called the foie gras of the sea with its delectably rich taste and texture. We serve our ankimo in perfect little medallions with some gelatin and sesame seeds as garnish. Ankimo is one of those dishes where the longer you let it sit out and cool down to room temperature, the better it will taste. Next time you come in, give it a try if you're an adventurous sushi lover with exquisite taste buds.
Sushi World has been fortunate enough to acquire a 170 lb Bluefin Tuna and we want to share it with you! While supplies last (170 lbs of it!), we are offering Bluefin Tuna sushi for $4 and sashimi for $9. Bluefin Toro is $8 for sushi and $18 for sashimi. What's the difference between the two? Well, we're glad you asked. Bluefin Toro is the fatty tuna that comes from the belly portion of the fish. It's obviously more expensive because there's less of it and it's just so darned delicious. It's like butter. But fish. And good for you. We highly recommend you try it if you haven't before.
If you haven't tried one of our newest appetizers, you're truly missing out. It's Fried Aji, which is a Japanese Mackerel. We bread it, fry it to perfection, and serve it with a sauce of your choice. We drizzle it with our thick ponzu sauce in the picture but we serve it normally without it. What makes it even more awesome is that it's on our already long list of available appetizers (10 to choose from!) for happy hour at only $3.50 each! Happy Hour is all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and on all other weekdays from 2pm till 5pm.
Continuing with our series of awesome bowls, especially for lunch, our Poke Bowl never disappoints! Great to have during lunch or dinner, our poke bowl will always hit the spot, especially if you don't have the time to sit down for a long spell at our sushi bar. It's got a little bit of everything in it: tuna, albacore, masago, tamago, and a bunch of other goodies that make this bowl absolutely perfect. And of course, it's dressed with our very own Hawaiian Poke dressing and it all sits on a bed of our sushi-grade rice.
Unagi is eel baked in a sweet soy sauce. For some who are still wary of eating raw fish, we have this bowl to fulfill your needs. It's quite simple and consists of generous portions of Unagi, Tamago (Japanese egg cake), vegetables, and of course, rice on the bottom. It's a simple, ideal lunch that will truly fill you up. It's full of flavor and perfect for lunch but you can also have it for dinner. Many who especially enjoy Unagi sushi will absolutely love this bowl. And of course, we have other bowls to enjoy, like our Chirashi Bowl, Poke Bowl, and our Negitoro Bowl.
Our Chicken Teriyaki Bento Boxes are only available during lunch and they're awesome! You have the choice of dining in or taking out. Doesn't matter because either way, it's delicious! Each bento box comes with 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, 3 pieces of vegetable tempura, miso soup, and a bowl of rice. Our Bento Box #1 comes with Spicy Tuna Roll or California Roll and it's only $9.95. Our Bento Box #2 comes with 1 sushi piece of each: tuna, albacore, salmon, and shrimp. It costs $11.95. Our 3rd Bento Box comes with 2 sashimi pieces of tuna, albacore, and salmon. It's priced at $14.95.
It's been a minute since we've posted about one of our sushi rolls. Let's get back on track with our signature roll, our Cypress Roll! It's center consists of shrimp tempura, cucumber, and avocado. It's topped with our snow crab mix, strawberries, and a sweet sauce. So, as you can tell, it has not raw fish in it so it's very sushi-virgin safe. Despite that, it is still very delicious and tasty. We wouldn't name it after the city we're in for nothing. It's been a minute. That's really a weird new expression these kids have come up with nowadays.
